I will admit, I was in awe when I heard about Zepto back in the day.

Infact, I have even written twice on LinkedIn applauding Zepto - emergency delivery and Zepto GPT

But, like they say there is a thin line between being clever and cunning.

And it’s extremely unfortunate that Zepto is now crossing into the latter.

It’s no news that Zepto hides the item handling fee in the bill total.

It’s no news that Zepto intentionally puts it on you to apply the free delivery coupon.

It’s no news that Zepto makes additional money by intentionally rounding figures up.

But, here’s the news.

It now

- adds something called as the fulfilment fee over and above the existing tens of fee items and that this fee is crazy high. Rs 80 for me here.

- randomly inflates the item handling cost to Rs 80

And by the way, these charges weren’t there in the first place.

It is only when it nudged me “to add items worth Rs 300 more to get Rs 150 off” is when this ‘magic’ happened.

So net net, it was like
“we give you a bargain only to loot you subconsciously”

And mind you - these were not exceptional items.
Vegetables. Cookies. Garbage bags.
Nothing that needs extra care or handling.

Zepto, you have legit lost a customer today.
