Yesterday, Sagarika Ghose threatened to press dubious charges of 'criminal trespass' against our Associate Editor.

For those who don't know, Sagarika Ghose is a 'journalist' turned politician. She is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from the Trinamool Congress.

Ghose is also the wife of 'journalist' Rajdeep Sardesai.

Our Associate Editor, Anupam Kumar Singh, was reporting from outside the residence of Sagarika Ghose.

During that process, Singh had a microphone in hand with the OpIndia logo. There was also a cameraperson at the location.

Anupam did not even enter through the gate of her residence, let alone barging into her house unlawfully.

He talked to the security guard, who said Rajdeep Sardesai was unavailable. Soon after, Anupam left the location.

There was no criminal or malicious motive.

Sagarika Ghose then fired off a tweet, tagging Delhi police, the Chief Minister's Office and the Vice President of India, threatening to press 'criminal trespass' charges against our Associate Editor.

If journalists start getting arrested for reporting outside MPs' homes, it is an alarming state of affairs.

Our Editor-in-Chief Nupur J Sharma posted a tweet, clarifying that Anupam Kumar Singh did nothing wrong and OpIndia will see Sagarika Ghose in court.

I am not sure about the timing, but Sagarika Ghose had by then deleted her tweet.

Thus, one more attempt to gag us through 'legal threats' was successfully thwarted.

Previously, the Stalin government in Tamil Nadu and the Mamata government in West Bengal had tried to hound us, but all those efforts (aimed at curbing press freedom) had failed in the court of law.

This would not have been possible without the continued and unwavering support of our readers.

We are grateful to each one of them.
