Recent research from Ross Hudgens shows that AI Overviews and LLMs have reduced overall sitewide traffic, but homepage traffic has increased, both in impressions and clicks.
We’re actually seeing this in Whitespark Inc.’s Analytics. I checked out Steve Toth’s excellent Looker Studio dashboard that tracks LLM traffic, and was surprised to see that we’ve received 1.5K visits from LLMs over the past 30 days - the majority of it to our homepage.
It’s also fascinating to see that ChatGPT is driving 99% of our LLM traffic.
The way people discover content is changing, and your homepage is more important than ever for both telling the LLMs about your business and for funnelling conversions since so many more people are landing on it.
