I am sure we are thinking about "๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ" and expecting to add more content adding a few keywords to get it indexed.
Practically, thin content doesn't mean the content has less word count.
Thin content means invaluable content that lacks quality and originality. It doesn't provide any informational gain to the user.
An article with 3000 words can also be thin content.
Imagine searching "๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ข๐ ๐ ๐ญ๐ข๐?"
And you come across a 2000-word article with the answer buried at the bottom.
No one would like it. Users want a straightforward answer, either illustrated with images or a simple video explaining how to tie a tie.
This doesn't mean all the 3000-word articles are useless. Some topics need in-depth content.
If someone searches "๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐?" a longer, more in-depth content is appreciated. Again, in depth content doesn't mean MORE words.
A recent patent filed by Google, โContextual estimation of link information gain,โ discusses an important concept - information gain score for a given document (page).
Source: https://lnkd.in/g27B3G7p
As per the patent, the information gain score is about how much additional value a linked page provides beyond what the current page already has.
Let's understand it with a simple example:
Consider this Query: "๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐?"
If you're reading a page on "๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ฌ" and it links to "๐ค๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก," the link adds value because it's relevant to your search for "how to start with SEO."
But if the page links to "๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ," itโs less useful in that context and has lower ๐ข๐ง๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ ๐๐ข๐ง.
To make it even simpler,
So Instead of focusing on word count, try to create content on every topic related to that article. Yes! ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ is not only for tech SEO.
