It can be many things:
- Paying for links lots of times more than a publisher asks for. This is what happens most times when you work with agencies and link building platforms.
- Paying good money for nofollow links when your objective is to build domain authority and the website is not as strong as Wikipedia, which transfers authority even through nofollow links.
- Getting PBN links because they are cheap and have a good DR, apparently, only to pay me or somebody else to get them removed after some time. Removing them usually costs more than what you initially paid.
- Getting backlinks that are not relevant to your website. If you are in the SaaS industry, you don’t want links from kindergarten websites if they are not relevant to you.
- Going for strategies that don’t generate predictable and constant results -> link exchanges, free guest posts, HARO, etc. These strategies should not represent your sole link building effort.
- Building an unnatural link building profile. I have seen it many times. Having tons of follow backlinks is not natural. You also need nofollow links.
- Building backlinks on the same websites as all your competitors. If you all build backlinks out of Excel files, you will end up having the very same links. What you can do is build laser-targeted links on better websites, which many times will cost you less.
- Building backlinks just from time to time is bad. You want to build them every month and never stop. Most of your competitors build backlinks every single day.
- Working with the middleman means that you will pay even up to 20 times more for 1 backlink, that you won’t build a relationship with the publisher, and that you are out of full control. At Backlinks BOX, we work totally differently than what you are used to. You pay exactly what the publisher asks, directly to him, and all the advantages we get are transferred to you.
Avoiding a link building disaster is simple if you understand the above ideas.
