It seems every Muslim builder has to go through this journey of building a marriage app at least once. But surprisingly, even with all the options out there, we felt there was still a gap in the market and a genuine need for a platform built with Islamic principles thatβs also accessible to the wider Muslim Ummah.
We researched the experiences of Muslims on existing platforms, and I personally tried and experimented with all the mainstream options used by Muslims today. They all had problems:
- Either they compromised on Islamic principles and were being used as "dating apps" or made it too easy for people to engage in the haram
- Those that prioritised Islamic principles were often lacking in features or too expensive, some borderline unusable due to poor UI/UX
- Many were simply too expensive or too limiting. Some apps are borderline unusable unless you pay. They have the right to charge what they think is appropriate, but it does make these apps inaccessible to people in lower income brackets and those not in the west.
So we set out to build a platform that doesnβt compromise on Islamic values, is accessible to everyday Muslims (whether you're in the UK or in Pakistan), and offers a great user experience with meaningful features.
I'm excited to announce NoorMatch! π
We built NoorMatch with Islamic values from the ground up:
- Instead of usual image-heavy, swipe-based model, we opted for a profile-based platform, so the focus is on character, deen, and personality first and foremost (Users do have the option to share photos after matching)
- Sisters are required to add a wali (guardian) before starting a conversation with a brother, this ensures that boundaries are being respect from both parties.
- We limit people to sending 2 requests everyday, which hopefully ensures people are more intentional with each request.
Alhumdulilah we did a soft launch few months ago and the platform is already being used by 2000+ users!
The next step for us is to focus on marketing so we can get this in hands of as many Muslims as possible! For technical founders, this is always the hardest part so if you have any advice let us know!
