This one message from VP Jio slapped me across the face.

Anshuman Ranjan, reached out to me on Jan 30, 2025. His message was, “Hi Jatin, I want to build my brand on LinkedIn. Can we connect?”

It seemed like another LinkedIn connection, but I texted back.

5 days ago, I read another reply from him and for the first time, I felt completely powerless.

3 months ago, the messages we exchanged led to Peeyush meeting him on a call in Feb.

Things were moving along smoothly and I thought, “This can be big.”

I was excited until April, when I finally reached out to Anshuman again, following up on the proposal we had shared.

I thought everything was good until his reply made me question everything I thought I knew.

His unedited message:

"Hi Jatin, wasn’t expecting this automated message from you. Please work on your lead qualification process. Some folks from your team are emailing me without looking at past interactions. Your lead gen process is broken. You’re targeting the wrong people and losing credibility."

I stared at my screen for 5 minutes, not believing what he just said.

It wasn’t the message I had expected.

The words hurt. I felt exposed, like I had completely misread the situation.

The truth hit me hard. I had missed the basics. My team wasn’t properly tracking leads and we were reaching out without context.

We were losing touch with the relationships we were trying to build.

For days, I couldn’t shake the feeling of embarrassment.

I had made a rookie mistake, but the worst part was realising it only after it was too late.

I’m not proud of this.

But I’m still grateful that message from him told me if you’re not tracking your leads properly, you’re not only missing opportunities, you risk damaging your reputation.

Peeyush
and I went back to the drawing board.

We had to look at our entire lead gen process again to track every conversation, every interaction.

We needed a system.

So, we invested in a CRM system.

We made sure we had the tools and processes in place to not repeat the same mistake again.

I learned that no matter how many followers I have - without the right systems, things can slip through the cracks and when they do, it costs.

When I watched bigin’s video, it all came rushing back.

The video mirrors how easily businesses lose trust, not because of bad intentions but because of bad systems. We’ve fixed a lot since then. But if you’re still relying on scattered tools or memory, watch this video.

It shares a reality most growing businesses learn the hard way.

The hardest thing I had to face was there were more gaps in our process than I'd like to admit.

btw, did you lose a deal because of communication gap? what did you do when you found out?
