📊 The next wave in wealth management, part 2: Acquisitions & niche TG's yes, but also AI. 📊

📱A few months ago, I tried to understand the wealth-tech space in India better. At the time, it felt like things were plateauing: platforms had scaled, and everyone seemed to be adding broking and UPI as standard features.

📱But now, something new is taking shape. And this wave isn’t about acquiring more users, it’s about building intelligent layers on top of mature infra. Even Nithin Kamath said if Zerodha were built today, it’d focus more on research and insight than broking

👉 Quick example(more in deep dive):
✅ Zerodha: $8B val, $1B revenue, $654M profit
✅ Groww: IPO ('25) at $7–8B, $374M revenue, $35M profit

Both are sustainable & profitable. But user growth is stagnating. So what’s next?

📱Deeper engagement. And like everything else: AI. And that’s why Zerodha’s launch of Kite MCP (Model Context Protocol) is so important. It’s a bet on the future of interfaces in finance.

❓But what is MCP?

📱 Well. Just like you can connect ChatGPT to Google Drive and ask, 'Summarize that file,' Now you can connect your Zerodha (Kite) account to GPT, or Claude and ask: 'Why did my SIP underperform?' or 'Sell stock XX if it hits ₹1,800.'

📱 At its core. MCP enables secure, consented access to your portfolio, and in some cases trigger actions. So AI tools can talk to your data, offer insights, and execute on your behalf.

📱 Think of MCP as an Account Aggregator, but with a brain. Not just data dumps. These are smart pipes, enabling ongoing conversations. And this also reflects a larger shift in AI design. We spent years embedding AI into apps: WhatsApp bots, in-app chat, Reclaim for calendars. Most didn’t scale, because the AI was stuck inside the product. MCP flips it. Now your apps and data come to the AI. The AI assistant talks to Zerodha, not the other way around.

👉 And this trend is everywhere:
1️⃣ ChatGPT x Stripe enables direct payments from conversation.
2️⃣ Perplexity x PayPal signals commerce in chat is heating up.

📱 But let’s be real: one-off payments don’t need MCP. If I’m chatting and want to buy a book, the AI chat just calls PA APIs. Where MCP matters is when you ask: ‘What’s our payment SR today?” or ‘Generate a rev report on xx,’ or even ‘create a payment link for xx.’ If you have complex data and want persistent, intelligent access, that’s MCP territory

📱This opens real B2B opportunities. Imagine: every employee has secure ChatGPT access with company data via MCP. They ask: 'Show me revenue trends' or 'flag XX vendor payouts.' Of course, it needs strong whitelisting, roles, and auth. And it's easier said than done. But it changes how teams work with data.

The shift is simple: smarter insights, better help, easier ways to ask and act, all "powered by AI."
