The first time I met Shri. Sridhar Vembu, Founder of Zoho. I blanked out—no words, just silence.

People who know me would understand—that’s a rare moment! :D

During that meeting, he asked us, “Banks ku vikarathu kastame pa?” and even added, “If I start now, I might do that.”

Wow, that’s a big statement, right?

Now, I finally had my chance to answer him and share why we chose to sell to banks.

Myself and my friends (Karthick
& Vishwanath
)—oh, I said friends, not co-founders, because we’ve known each other since kindergarten!

It was in 2005 when we first started talking about business:
“Macha, we have to do something.”

It was in 2013 when we said,
“Macha, let’s do this!”
That’s how Greazeit evolved (One app for all your RSA). But we were all young and had just started earning. We couldn’t go home and say, “We’re starting something.”
Still, we developed a beta version and launched it on the Play Store.
After a year, we realized it was too early—not just for us, but for the market too. No cloud in India, it was the pre-Jio era, and we were weighed down with family responsibilities, serious relationships, buying a house for our parents, car loans, siblings’ studies…

We took a pause to focus on ourselves.

Then came 2018, when we started Swan Dewatering Systemss.
By then, we’d set aside all the heavy baggage and convinced our families it was time for us.
We bootstrapped Swan, and now I can proudly say Swan is one of the top vendors in India, with 100+ members and profitable.

Meanwhile, in 2020, when Covid peaked, we realized that no business should rely on just one “kalla” (cash box).
Since we were always passionate about tech and its distribution, the idea was obvious.

In 2022, we launched the operations of Backspace Tech.

We started this knowing it would take time—
The dreams and vision of those 10th-standard guys led to GreazeIt,
The failure of GreazeIt made us come back stronger with Swan,
The success of Swan allowed us to pursue the tech dream.

Now, with Backspace, we will simplify and resolve every customer dispute, making them happy.

This is not about survival.
Slowly, we might just rewrite the legacy tech in banks—
With a happy team, zero regrets.
That’s us: Backspace Tech.

This was a “Glimpse of the Pitch”—from a blank out to a detailed pitch.

Thanks to Ambi Moorthy , Praveen Krishna & Aalamaram Startup Incubator for this wonderful opportunity and a special thanks to I A S BALAMURUGAN, Dhruv Sane, Vignesh Ramanujam, Arun Prakash M, Saurabh Sharma, Vijay Pravin Maharajan, and many more.

If you’ve read this far, you might be wondering: what did he say after the pitch?

“Good things come to those who wait.”
I am waiting!
