1) there is huge shortage of people in cyber security. Companies want to hire folks, except there are not enough folks to fill all roles.
and
2) to get hired, you just need to be certified. Now give us your money.
Now everyone has some assortment of certifications clubbed together in resume. They start applying everywhere; and then wonder why they are not drowning in offers. It takes a lot of time for them to realize and accept that they have been effectively scammed:
- Those promised jobs do not exist
- Jobs with "fat money" are not being advertised on LinkedIn (and are very rare in grand scheme of things)
- They are competing with 10,000 more candidates for same position (who happen to have more experience, are willing to work for same "package" etc.)
------
You end up paying ~12-16L for a B.Tech with some "specialization" like "cybaaaar shitkyuriteeee". Then you pay ~1-2L more for some bunch of certifications which promised you jobs in some way.
What do you get after burning 13-18L in 4 years? A VAPT job paying ~4LPA, and having no real growth prospects.
Remember: value of a certification is inversely proportional to how many other people have it. If everyone has the certification, it is not even worth the paper it is printed on (irrespective of how much you paid for it); simply because it stopped being a differentiator.
