The BuzzStream/Citation Labs joint 2025 Link Building Trends Report is live, and while challenges remain, there's plenty to be excited about in 2025 πŸ‘‡

πŸ“ˆ 56% say link building budgets are going up
πŸ€– 68% believe AI will make links more important
πŸ™Œ 65% say leadership supports link building
🧠 62% say AI citations are a top priority

The industry’s maturing. Budgets are growing.

There are some areas for growth, however:

βœ… 61% manage link building in-house, but only 29% say their efforts are successful
🧠 66% struggle to identify the right tactics
πŸ’° Just 29% say getting a budget is β€œeasy”
πŸ“Š Only 40% think their reports effectively convey value
πŸ€– And just 11% have a repeatable process to get cited in AI

I believe the SEOs will see the most significant gains from link building in 2025 by aligning their strategies with impact through AI exposure or links to revenue goals.
