Snabbit had got a $1M Seed cheque from Nexus when it was in 'stealth mode' (founder of Snabbit was the COS at Zepto)
In 2014, Urban Company formalized home services in India. Now, Snabbit is trying to make it QUICK… everything is becoming quick:
🛒Groceries → Blinkit, Instamart, Zepto
🥪Food → Swish, Zing, Zepto Cafe, Bistro by Blinkit, SNACC by Swiggy
👕Fashion → Blip Fashion, Slikk, Myntra
💊Medicine → Medstown, Farmako, Plazza
And, now home services too!
While UC started with low frequency | high severity use-cases (e.g. plumber), Snabbit has started with high frequency use-cases (e.g. cleaner on demand)
What are some of the potential use-cases? Usual help skips work. Sunday week-off for your help & the house is a mess. Extra help needed after guests come over. Emergence leakage / power cut… The list is quite long.
Btw, even Snabbit has 2 modes →
(1) Noww (i.e. 15 mins)
(2) Ready (i.e schedule for later).
The ‘Ready’ offering is exactly what you get from UC.
Which makes sense — homes services have 2 use-cases: emergency / ad-hoc and routine visit.
Snabbit has come out of stealth mode just as UC is getting ready for its IPO (where it is rumored to be raising ~₹3,000 crore). It also provides a minimum income guarantee to its partners (which is required in such a biz).
➡️ My personal take on this professional home services industry is that SUPPLY is the moat (i.e. finding, training & retaining talent) and NOT demand generation. Will be interesting to see how incumbents like UC respond to the same.
