Month 0:
↳ Do a full audit and analyse issues that need fixing and can move the needle. Ignore the rest.
↳ Identify keyword opportunities that you want to target. Look for search demand from your ICP. Ignore the rest.
↳ Create a basic execution plan. Prioritise only the issues that can have a significant impact. Front-load all the bottom-of-the-funnel opportunities.
Month 0.5 - 2
↳ Start preparing for the bottom of the funnel pages. These are usually landing pages, PDPs, and service pages.
↳ Analyse competitors → Create a wireframe → Create copy for the page → Design & Develop → QA and ship
↳ These are your money pages, and every effort should go into ranking these. Organise these pages so that they get the maximum juice. Make sure you have captured ALL BoFu opportunities with these pages.
↳ Fix all the technical issues that are growth inhibitors. Most tech fixes can be done within 30-45 days, so get them out of the way.
↳ If it's a new website, start by building some foundational links. If it's an established website, start with building homepage links. 10-20 links should do the trick for most websites. If not, assess and build accordingly.
Month 2
↳ Now it's time to move to the middle of the funnel. These are usually comparison/alternative pages, collection pages, location pages, etc. Look for pSEO opportunities here!
↳ Same drill → Analyse →Wireframe → Create copy → Design & Develop → QA and ship. If there are pSEO opportunities, then an additional step would be to create a database.
↳ Once all of them are deployed, ensure your site arch and your internal linking are top notch and done strategically.
↳ Build links to the BoFu pages. These depend on the niche, but start with 5-6 per page. Build more if required later on.
Month 3
↳ Start working on ToFu content. Your focus here should be mostly thought leadership content or expertise-driven content. Also, build out tools, calculators, templates, quizzes, etc.
↳ Remember, you need to create content experiences and not just content. Make your content richer. You'd rather create 5 content experiences than 50 AI slop blogs.
↳ All of these pages should have internal links to your BoFu and MoFu pages, plus each other (not randomly, though, but thoughtfully)
↳ Get some links to these content experiences. If they are truly good, it will create a flywheel and start earning links.
By the end of it, you will definitely start seeing some movement in terms of impressions, some clicks and even rankings.
From here on, you should be focusing on experimenting, iterating and reinforcing where required. A couple of months later, do another sprint like this and rinse and repeat.
But you need to understand this - execution speed is negotiable in SEO.
Nobody said you'd have to do it over 12 months.
You can do most of the heavy lifting in just 4 months. Agreed?
