Generative AI doesn’t sometimes hallucinate. Hallucination is really honestly using that word incorrectly. But AI hallucination is all that generative AI does. All that ‘gen’ AI does is throw things together, like throwing pasta and sauce at a wall and waiting to see what sticks. This is done based on what the viewer likes and doesn’t like.
There’s no real rhyme or reason. There’s isn’t true structure, context, simulation or process. There is no skill insight, emotion, judgement, inspiration, synthesis, iteration, revision, or creation. There is just the buldhitting of stochastic parrots. Its like a word jumble or a word salad generator. Its not even as good as scramble or boggle.its better to think of it as AI Mad Libs. Thats right, AI Mad Libs. Trust your business, your future and your creation to AI Mad Libs.
Stochastic parrots as LLMs as AI Mad libs, are a purely statistical method that is not based on the users needs, nor rich context, but on the highest likelihood in the training database. Prompts are not context. A depot, a style guide, concepting, a team, creative direction, and human experience are context when together.
I’m not saying generative AI has no use, but it probably should be used for about 1% of the things that people are pushing it for. I really like AI. I have used AI tech in games for 25 years. And I actually quite like a great deal of the AI offering from both Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Nvidia. Not the generative AI, but you know the actual good AI they’ve had for a number of years now the last decade. And I generally like the AI research by folks like Sony, Microsoft and others much more. Also I want to be hugely supportive of AI startups that are being overlooked and ignored because they’re not trendy AI generative crap.
There are a massive amount of good AI companies that are being overlooked and ignored unless they stick generative in front of their name. it’s like the worst errors of the dotcom era repeated ad nauseam.
I really like AI tools and technology. The real kind that tries to augment the human experience and not replace it. I really hate the sloppy artificial broken nature of generative AI which tries to replace the human experience rather than augmenting it. We don’t need the human experience or human creativity replaced, ever. That was not a solution that anyone was trying to look for except a bunch of AI tech bros. It was a solution that no one needed to solve. And they haven’t.
