PhonePe app recently moved its QR scanner from the top-right corner to the bottom center.

If you’ve used PhonePe lately, you may have noticed this shift. While it seems minor, it makes a big difference.

The old top-right placement was awkward, especially for larger phones—it often required two hands to reach. Moving the scanner to the bottom center—right where your thumb naturally rests—is a huge improvement. It makes scanning faster, easier, and more comfortable, especially for frequent users.

This tweak doesn’t just boost convenience; it also improves accessibility and reduces effort, leading to quicker interactions. Could this even increase payment frequency?

But why now?

Paytm figured this out way earlier. So why did PhonePe, the UPI leader, take so long? Perhaps its reliability and merchant coverage kept users loyal, even with some clunky design choices.

The takeaway? A great product can survive a few UX hiccups, but there’s always room for improvement. Even at the top, listening to users and making small changes helps you stay ahead.

What’s your take? Ever experienced a small tweak in an app that made a big difference?
