Our Plans for 2025?
10 New Retail Stores.

We built Portland Leather Goods online with just the right mix of delusion and a relentless mission to make the best damn bags we could figure out how to sew together.

My journey with PLG started in 2018 with a single mission: grow PortlandLeatherGoods.com. Sounds simple enough now, but back then, PLG was almost entirely an Etsy business. In fact, we were one of the top 100 all-time Etsy sellers. My job was to crack the code on scaling our website—and to be honest, I had no freaking clue what I was doing. (I’m still making it up as I go, but don’t tell my boss.)

Fast forward nearly seven years, and PLG has grown into a thriving e-commerce powerhouse, generating over nine figures in annual revenue. People love our products, and we’re laser-focused on making the best leather goods using the finest leather we can source from around the world.

But today, 90%+ of our sales are still online.

In the early years, we dabbled in retail, operating what you might call an “informal store” in our office building in Southeast Portland. Picture this: customers wandering upstairs to a tiny corner on our workshop floor, where we had a few products on display. If they wanted to buy something, they’d have to flag down a random employee, triggering a treasure hunt for the perpetually lost “store iPad.”

Even with this chaotic setup, I developed a core belief:
The best marketing we have is getting our bags into people’s hands.
There’s something magical about leather—the texture, the smell—it’s magnetic. Once someone holds one of our products... they get it too.

Since 2021, we’ve opened three proper retail locations: two in Portland and our newest in Austin, Texas. These stores have been incredible, reinforcing what I’ve always believed: nothing replaces the power of experiencing our products in person.

So, what’s next?

As I mentioned, we’re opening 10 new retail stores in 2024. This is a huge step forward in our mission to spread Portland Leather Goods across the nation. We’re putting incredible stores in incredible locations, inviting as many people as possible to come in, pick up our products, try them on, and experience firsthand what makes PLG different.

2025 is going to be a big year, so pay attention—we might just be putting a store near you, and we’d love to meet you.

Shout out to a few people crazy enough to help us build this plane while we fly it! Marcia Hayes
