Listen to what Ronaldo says to himself before taking a penalty. Here are 3 things to notice:

1. ‘You can you can’
- this is motivational self talk
- He is feeding himself with encouragement and energy
- This increases confidence, belief and optimism.

2. ‘Cross the barrier, the same as always’
- this is instructional self talk
- It prompts the mind and body to execute a particular task or process
- This improves performance under pressure and signals control to the mind and body.

3. ‘It’s normal for you to score’
- we are quick to doubt ourselves under pressure
- This self talk reminds him of who he is and what he is capable of
- It’s a type of autosuggestion that instils trust, competence and faith.

(I love this one)

Having the right self talk is the difference between good and great.

It needs to be intentional, personal and specific.

It’s different for everyone. That’s why it’s important to take time to build yours.

P.s it’s not only for atheltes!! Since building mine I have seen a significant improvement in my mindset, resilience and performance.

♻️ repost to help someone else learn from Ronaldo.
