๐ฐ That got me thinking: could I build a simple, no-code solution to this common problem? ๐ค
I bounced the idea off to Shan Abdul Salam, and he was more excited than me.
A quick poll in the group confirmed it โ this was something people truly needed. ๐
So, I rolled up my sleeves and built an 8n automation that does exactly this:
๐ Check a competitor's product page.
๐ Records the price in a shared spreadsheet.
๐ฒ Sends a Telegram notification if the price changes.
The best part? It took me less than 20 minutes to set up! โฑ๏ธ
I then created a short, step-by-step video demonstrating the entire process. ๐ฌ I expected some casual interest, but the response was immediate and overwhelming. ๐คฏ
My DMs were flooded with messages like, "Hey, I tried it and... nothing happened!" ๐คฆ This feedback was invaluable. It highlighted a crucial learning curve: understanding CSS selectors.
After a few quick fixes and some guidance on finding the right selectors, users were successfully monitoring multiple competitors! โ
At Datahut , we typically work with large enterprises with massive-scale data collection. ๐ข However, we believe smaller brands deserve the same powerful insights without the hefty price tag or dedicated tech team. ๐ก That's precisely why we built this automation.
This project truly underscores the power of n8n. It's democratising automation, making sophisticated tools accessible to businesses of all sizes, and leveling the playing field for smaller brands. ๐
