Here are 3 dos and 3 don'ts to grow your audience.
All of this started because my business partner Michel Lieben 🧠 pushed me to write.
"You need to start posting. We will close even more deals."
Fast forward to today: Our LinkedIn content has generated millions in pipeline for ColdIQ.
Here's what I learned along the way:
3 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO:
1️⃣ Write like you're talking to one person
Don't write for "LinkedIn." Write for that one prospect who needs to hear exactly what you're saying. When you write for everyone, you write for no one.
2️⃣ Share real numbers and real failures
My best posts often include actual revenue numbers, client results, or mistakes we made while growing the business. Be brutally transparent. People make a lot of jokes about how often we mention our employee count and MRR but people love to witness the growth and follow the journey.
3️⃣ Consistency > Perfectionism
Michel Lieben 🧠 and I made a pact in January: post every weekday for the entire year. We've hit publish from airports, at 1am from hotel rooms, even when we're sick. It's much better to post consistently than to drop one banger post once every month.
3 THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T DO:
1️⃣ Don't try to reinvent the wheel (at the beginning)
This blocks most people from starting. When I started, I watched what Mich was doing and got inspiration from other creators. I copied formats that worked, then slowly found my own voice and style.
2️⃣ Don't try to be well-known, try to be known well
It's better to have some street cred and be respected in a specific niche than to have 100,000 random followers. You want people to respect your expertise on a specific topic rather than being famous for the sake of being famous.
3️⃣ Don't underestimate the power of great visuals
A good designer who can turn your ideas into clean infographics will at least 3x your impressions. Most people scroll past text-heavy posts, but they stop for a cool visual that displays information in a nice way.
Thanks everyone for following the journey.
I still believe that growing a personal brand is the biggest increase in luck exposure anyone can do.
It was the best decision I made over the last two years to start writing content.
Growing your personal brand is the best infinite game to play.
What other dos and don'ts would you add?
