He still said NO!! 😳
I was hiring for a sales role.
A senior executive applied for the role.
The person had solid experience.
But here’s where it got tricky.
He wanted the entire package as a fixed salary.
I offered something better:
A base salary of 8-10 lakhs + 20% commission on each closed deal.
(Avg. ticket size ₹10-14 lakhs.)
If you know sales, you know this is a goldmine.
Because if you’re good at it, you can make way more than 30 lakhs.
But he rejected it.
That moment told me everything I needed to know about him:
He didn’t believe in his ability to sell.
He wanted high rewards, zero risk.
🚨 People today want to make big money doing safe work.
Not impactful work.
Not accountable work.
Just comfortable work.
Unfortunately, that’s not how growth happens.
Not in sales.
Not in startups.
Not even in life.
You either bet on yourself or live a life of mediocrity.
Because here’s the hard truth:
The market doesn’t pay anyone for years of experience.
It pays them for the value they create.
And value creation is never guaranteed, never fixed.
It’s earned. Every. Single. Time.
The role is still open.
But only for someone who believes that salary is earned, not handed.
PS: I worked 7 years+ as a sales professional on a 100% incentive-based model, with zero fixed income.
