Letting go of someone who isn’t working out is one of the hardest parts of building a team.
I’ve made the mistake of waiting too long. More than once.
Part of it is because I’m generally a nice guy, and I do believe in second chances.
The other reason? Finding the right talent at right time price et al is just... so freaking exhausting. Especially for a startup.
But here’s the truth I’ve come to realize—
holding on to someone who’s not the right fit is downright unfair.
Unfair to the team. Unfair to your mission.
And most of all, unfair to the great talent out there, who deserve meaningful, fulfilling work.
And it’s not one-sided—
I’ve seen so many talented people stuck in the wrong roles, not because they’re not good, but because it’s just that hard to find the right opportunity.
We spend most of our waking lives working.
We have to make it easier to match the right people to the right work.
That’s what drives a lot of what we’re building. It’s personal.
