Limited Idea Entertained (LIE). 😤
There is ZERO evidence that protein harms healthy kidneys or liver.
And yet, nutritionists keep using this argument, claiming excess protein will harm your kidneys. It does NOT. ❌
Protein was seen and measured in patients with a kidney problem. And reverse causality was misused to create a fear protein propaganda. Even this was questioned. A recent study even showed that kidney disease patients who ate higher protein had LOWER mortality rates than those on low protein diets. I still won’t recommend higher protein for people whose kidneys are damaged.
But.
One big reason why India is protein-deficient is that it has 0.6 grams per kg of body weight. Why India is more fat and less adequately muscled. Only if we changed the narrative from being fat-loss obsessed to adequately muscled.
Protein is my macronutrient to go. My opening batsman. Here is why:
1. Protein is just 4 calories per gram, like Crabs.
2. But it keeps you fuller, satiated, unlike carbs. Prevents binging.
3. It has the highest TEF (Thermic Effect of Food), ➡️burns more calories to digest, unlike both fats and carbs.
4. When you eat more protein, you under-eat carbs and sugars and lose weight.
5. Excess protein cannot be stored and is secreted out (unless you are starving).
Eat a minimum of 1.6 grams of protein per kg of body weight for optimal health. Eat more if you want to. Both vegetarian and animal sources have protein. Dairy is also great for protein. Whey or plant protein powders are a convenient way to reach 1.6 grams.
Know this: Protein is not going to destroy your kidneys, make you fat, or ruin your health.
Don’t fear protein. 🙏
