Dr. Chat GPT?

Yesterday, I completed a 5k and turned on my phone to check my MRI report.

I had an ankle sprain back in mid January and I wanted to check my ligament health before I bumped up my running distances to 15kms.

The report was shocking. While my ligaments were healthy, I allegedly had a fracture. But, I had just completed a 5k, the 4th outdoor run for the week. A fractured leg shouldn't even be able to stand. I had been treadmill running since March and had been walking and going to the office since February.

My original diagnosis back in February said I had no fractures, thus I had resumed normal activity after only a weeks break. I had gradually been working my way up with a fractured leg all while thinking it was a sprain. But, this one is not about the placebo. This one is about AI.

The original diagnosis was questionable. The orthopedic doctor I consulted yesterday could find a fracture in the original x-ray, but it was in retrospect. He even said it was like finding a needle in the haystack and even he would've said no fracture back in Feb given the radiologists report.

Now, I fed the original xray from February to ChatGPT without giving it any context. I asked my friend Vivek .
to run it on his system so that ChatGPT has no data for me. We even made the prompt "Analyse the Xray" without biasing it towards a fracture.

To our surprise ChatGPT was able to find the fracture. It was even able to accurately diagnose the location of the fracture that matched with the MRI report from this week.

Disclaimer: This post is not to bash healthcare professionals. They are amazing. ChatGPT got this one correct but there could be False Positives as well.
