It hurts my heart to see so many of my former friends and colleagues in the tech media world get laid off as businesses implement AI tools and tighten the belt as ad and sponsorship funded written content becomes dicey business.
My advice to anyone who primarily made their living “writing words on the internet and getting people to read them” and now finds themselves jobless? Pick a content-adjacent marketing discipline and go hard and fast as soon as possible.
Doing content-as-a-business is more uncertain than ever, but you know what is 100% certain? The world is *filled* with companies who need expert storytellers who can ensure prospects know they exist and understand why they want their products.
I successfully pivoted out of tech journalism/editing/publishing into content marketing 3 years ago. You can do it too. My DMs are open to anyone and everyone who might be struggling with their career path.
