The story starts 20 years ago, when I was in 11th standard,I heard of Dada Boudi.
Went there with my best friend to see a queue of around 20 people outside a 100sqft shop. The first morsel was enough for me to understand what the hype was about. Did a quick naive math 20 handi 90 plates each. Cost 50rs plate
20*90*50 = 90000. Food cost 50% Labour cost 10% Gross profit 36000 per day. Monthly profit around 10L. Paisa hi paisa hoga aur Padhai bhi nhi karna hoga :D
Went back home pitched the idea to my Dad, excited I told him Papa agar Dada boudi 20 handi biryani bechta hai toh hum log 5 handi toh bech hi denge.
My Dada angrily, "marwadi ladka nonveg ka business karega" ?
Cut to 20 years later and lot of dreams shattered in between..
I heard in Nikhil Kamaths podcast about the qsr model and how successful it is. Meanwhile biryani was the undisputed top selling item in Zomato and Swiggy.I thought lets build a global biryani qsr.
Not knowing anything about food business, started researching about biryani, the cost involved and how to differentiate in this crowded market. It was simple the flavours that made the 100sqft shop to build the six floor biryani mall, why not give consumers the same taste.
My first co-founder was my best friend from Class 1. We were inseparable from Day 1.I was the sorted and ambitious one and he brought madness and fun in whatever he did. The best sales guy ever.
Lots of notes, meetings, strategies were discussed which were mostly followed with heated debates.
20 year old friendship ended in 20minutes and I don't know why.
Back to Square 1.
To be continued....Part 2.
Received lot of calls and messages from morning to enquire if everything is well. Guys this is an Origin Story when the name was also not final.... wait for part 2.
