Astrotech is booming beyond belief in India. But, the reason isn’t as intuitive.

Astrotalk made ₹651 crore in revenue and ₹100 crore in profit last year.
(Meanwhile, Zomato, Paytm, and Ola are still loss making.)

And it’s not just Astrotalk:

→ Startups like InstaAstro, Astrosure, VAMA App and AstroSage AI are all scaling
→it’s a $163M market size, projected to reach $1.8B by 2030
→ 49% CAGR, faster than pretty much all consumer categories

The craziest insight is that even Gen Zs are using these platforms at a large scale. But this rise isn’t because astrology suddenly became “cool.”

It’s because something is deeply broken in how India handles mental health. 43% of Indians feel lonely.
80% of those with depression or anxiety never get treatment.

But, therapy still has a stigma. It feels inaccessible and so, people turn somewhere else.
They open an astrology app.

If you see the ads for these platforms this is what you’ll see:

→ “Will my ex come back?”
→ “When will my son get married?”
→ “When will I recover from this massive loss?”

Once inside the app, we’re not alone. We’re being heard and told our future will be okay.
We’re given hope.

It’s a textbook example of the Substitution Effect in behavioral economics. When the ideal solution (therapy) is hard to access, we replace it with something more available, even if it isn’t designed for that purpose.

So, India solves its mental health through something closer to home. Yet another nuance that makes our market unique.

The tougher question:
Can astrologers actually replace therapists?

Whatever you may feel - the business opportunity is large and the growth is galloping

Have you turned to astrology — online or offline? How was the experience?
