As per current trends, our PROFIT in FY26 will exceed our REVENUE in FY25. The top reason? Our decision to build in Surat, a Tier 2 city.

Context:
devx commerce is an AI-led services company that is focused on building AI-agents.

What has worked for us so far:
a. The right people:
The top 0.1% of fresher developers from good colleges in Gujarat are at an average, 20-30% less skilled than the top 0.1% of fresher developers from top Indian colleges (who're all working in Bangalore/Hyderabad).

However, the Tier 2 folks are 20-30% more hardworking than their Tier 1 counterparts. They're also much more likely to stay in the same company for a longer period. The hard work and loyalty compound over 2-3 years and create exceptional value.

b. The right culture:
Most typical software companies in Tier II cities are extremely restrictive. They're run as a family-owned company where all decisions are taken by the founder. The developers/PMs/designers/QAs in the team do not get the right exposure and freedom to learn. We flipped this on its head. We built devx on culture-codes that decentralise decision-making. The learning curve of our developers is extremely steep. This has given rise to some excellent home-grown leaders.

c. The right compensation:
Developers at devx are best-in-class. Naturally, they deserve the best salary too. They're paid anywhere between 20% to 50% higher than the city average. High performers experience tremendous growth in compensation. We've also created an ESOP pool, unlike most companies in this city.

What's lacking in the city?
We need more talent from top universities across the country to come to Surat, as well as more ambitious start-ups Refrens, Rocket (by DhiWise) and videosdk.live to be built in this city. It's a flywheel effect.

At devx, we're just getting started. We're hiring across roles in tech and growth. The tech roles are based in Surat (full stack devs, Product Managers, QAs), and the growth roles (growth associate, growth lead, cloud consultant) are in Mumbai. If you're interested - DM me at superdm.com/pushpal
