10 things you need to know before building a business

Whenever I meet new entrepreneurs or young students who’d want to execute their startup ideas, one common theme in all their queries is an eagerness for a quick fix or a magic mantra over scaling a business or how to start strong. And over the years, I have learnt that it's not all about only "hustle," you know? There are many essential things in the mix but some of those are what I still practice.

Let me share these with you:
Here are the things I've learned along the way:

Build connections:
Just working hard isn't enough. You've got to let people see your skills. Make connections. It's not about bragging, it's about being visible.

Little daily habits add up to big results:
It's not one big break, it's those small, consistent things you do every day that matter.

Blaming others gets you nowhere:
Even if it's not your fault, focus on fixing the problem. You'll get further.

If you're too comfortable, you are not growing:
Challenge yourself. That's where you learn the most.

People remember how you show up:
Your reputation is more powerful than any resume. Be yourself, and be good.

Learn from challenges:
Mistakes happen. Learn from them, and keep moving.

If you want something, ask for it:
Don't wait for someone to notice you. Speak up.

Working hard on the wrong things is a waste:
Make sure your energy is going towards what really matters.

Thinking about doing something is not the same as doing it:
Take action! You'll figure things out as you go.

Not everyone is on your side:
Be careful who you trust. Build genuine relationships.

Building a career in a startup, or scaling a business, requires more than just effort. It's about being smart, adaptable, and knowing who you can count on.

What career truths have you learned?
