My LinkedIn post on our investment in Dil Foods got >500k views. That’s 10x what all the media coverage got. Is traditional media losing relevance?

Over the last 6 months I’ve heard 2 things from people. “We enjoy your content! Please keep sharing more…”. Or, “Why are you so active? What do you get out of it?”

And so, I thought I’d share a thesis about it like I do for everything else 😂

On people enjoying it and gaining value, I am thankful.

But, here’s why I spend time and energy doing it:

It’s not fame or numbers. It’s part of the job.

I shared my thesis on why I decided to invest in Arpita Aditi
’s on LinkedIn. It got 25% of the number of impressions that the viral Shark Tank pitch got on Youtube!

I shared my thoughts on why India needs a mass premium coffee chain. 5m people saw it and, 50+ people building in that exact part of the market reached out to me.

The bottom line: For a long time, investors talked about their view of the market and their thesis areas to the traditional media. I predict, everyone will eventually have to move here.

The world of media is changing. Today, we don’t have a PR team for V3 Ventures. And, we use platforms like this (and even Instagram) to engage with founders, share what we do and even find relevant companies.

In the last 6 months, we’ve shared thesis pieces that have got 13m+ eyeballs. I doubt any publication could replicate these figures even with a fee. Also, this is an owned channel for us rather than a 3rd party one.

From a business perspective - this helps. This is our top of funnel. When we reach to founders they know who we are and how we invest. And, when introductions are made, they’re more impactful.

This isn’t the case just for the investing business. News outlets are now embracing social media. Think about Ravish Kumar
or Palki Sharma. YouTube and Twitter are now front and centre for these companies.

Media will look very different over the next century.

What do you think? Where do you get your news? 🗞️

PS - It’s not just about top of funnel for us. We found one company to invest in from our thesis pieces. More on that very soon ;)

PPS: I get pitches DMed on Instagram and, I respond. Nothing wrong with that :)
