A paanwaala doing 1 Cr/month through 60+ locations?!? Here’s the story of The Betel Leaf Co

Paan is a post-meal treat deeply ingrained deeply in Indian culture. But, the experience of consuming needed a modern twist.

Think about it: Traditionally, enjoying paan involved a trip to the local paanwalla. But with changing times and a generation hungry for convenience, Gen Z wasn’t making this trip as much.

Hygiene and non standardisation was keeping the new age consumers away. Also, the local players were old school and slow to innovate on product.

Prem Rheja
saw this gap in the market and transformed a simple product into a scalable business. Today, they operate across 40 cities with over 60 outlets, offering a mind-boggling 45+ flavor options. Yes, that includes a tiramisu paan!

The key takeaway? Even the most ordinary businesses hold the potential for disruption. All it takes is a fresh perspective and the willingness to innovate.

Who would’ve thought paan would be digitised and modernised? So many categories can follow suit :)
