I spoke to hundreds of companies about their AI search visibility. Here are the three most common mistakes:

1️⃣ Skipping SEO. LLM retrieval systems still run on classical search engines. If your robots.txt blocks crawlers, your content sits behind JavaScript, or you do not rank in Google or Bing, no GEO tactic can fix that.

2️⃣ Only optimizing your own website. Most AI citations come from third-party sources: G2, Capterra, Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, editorial coverage. You need to cover both on-page (owned media) and off-page (earned media).

3️⃣ Describing your brand inconsistently online. Different wording on your about page, Yelp entry, and LinkedIn page, confuses the models.
