Festival of Punjab- Baishakhi50

Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is a festival that is celebrated in India to mark the beginning of the Hindu solar New Year and the harvest season. It is also an important festival for the Sikh community as it keeps the formation of the Khalsa Panth, the community of initiated Sikhs, by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru.
The festival is usually celebrated on the 13th or 14th of April every year, and it is a time for people to come together and celebrate the blessings of the previous year and welcome the new year with hope and joy.
For farmers in Punjab and Haryana, Baisakhi is a particularly important festival as it marks the end of the harvest season. The wheat crop is harvested around this time, and farmers express gratitude to God for a bountiful harvest. They also pray for a good monsoon season and a productive year ahead.
For the Sikh community, Baisakhi is a significant festival as it marks the formation of the Khalsa Panth in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh. On this day, he asked the Sikhs who had gathered to volunteer to sacrifice their lives for the Sikh faith. Five Sikhs came forward and were initiated into the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh. They were given the title of 'Panj Pyare,' which means 'the beloved five.' Guru Gobind Singh then infused Amrit, a sweet nectar, into a bowl and stirred it with a sword while reciting the hymns from the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib. The five initiates drank from the bowl and were then given the surname 'Singh,' which means 'lion,' to signify their courage and strength.
Today, Baisakhi is celebrated by Sikhs all over the world with great enthusiasm and devotion. Sikhs visit gurudwaras, the Sikh place of worship, and participate in processions, sing devotional hymns, and perform traditional dances like the bhangra and the gidda.
