How to contact investors for your startup?

Where am I?

In StartupTalky you can ask and answer questions and share your experience with others!

Contact investors through warm introductions - you will get a higher conversion rate for replies and meetings (hopefully), compared to cold emailing investors.

In the email with information about your business include a pitch deck consisting of:

  • Problem you are solving/opportunity you are pursuing
  • Solution to your problem/how you will seize this opportunity
  • Team. Who are folks that are building the product and what is their experience
  • Market. Indicate market dynamics. Growing? Stagnant? Trends?
  • Competition. Whom are you up against?
  • Traction. Where you are now? How have you grown?
  • Business model
  • Financial projections
  • Ask (it is up to you to include how much money you are asking) saves time for investors knowing what kind of a deal you are proposing them
  • Startup weekends. Many metropolitan areas have these. The mentors who help the teams usually include angels. A purpose of the event is to network, so angels will not be surprised if you make contact.
  • Meetup groups. Many metropolitan areas have active meetup groups for entrepreneurs and investors.
  • Colleges. Many now have entrepreneurial or start-up centers.
  • Incubators, accelerators, and shared work spaces. Angels are around these places as are entrepreneurs. Network and find out how to meet angels.
