Even if the contract is $110 an hour, finding the quality is hard. When you get
one that actually passes the technical rounds, the window of opportunity for
offer quickly diminishes when a FAANG company counter offers. You end up in a
bidding war. Simply, good candidates get snapped up quick. Doesn't matter where
they are in the world. A good engineer will get offers and they know it. Even
the ones offshore (at $35 an hour). The good ones get snapped up at the foreign
recruitment firms. And every TopTal candidate I've talked to failed my rounds.
I'm a pretty good technical interviewer. I have high standards and low
tolerance. I will end it if I don't see a fit in 15 minutes.
Companies often fail to do that and treat them as coders and coders take it just
as a job and thats where quality and user experience deteriorates pushes to the
more testing and fixes, increasing timelines.

challenge. Especially that it's harder and take more time to assess than
technical skills. I had more success with juniors and training them.

problem is with competence. I have good developers sometimes that got bad
communication skills or just dont fit into the team for various reasons. I have
developed a "system" to softly integrate them into the team.
