Was Netflix account/password sharing a bug or a feature?

I think it was a feature masked as a bug, a crazy crazy growth hack. Here is why
I think so...

Because Netflix allowed this bug-like feature to exist, millions of accounts
were shared.

As a result of this, millions of people who would have never experienced Netflix
are now hooked and addicted to Netflix.

If you pull the plug on an addict what happens? They will shell out everything
they own to get their fix.

And Netflix is being nice - they aren't even asking for everything you own.

So this one bug-like feature could instantly turn on millions of paid
subscribers overnight, who would have otherwise stayed on the fence.

What do you think bug or feature?
