'Perks at work' were hotly debated when I worked in the UK - at BimaPe, we've
got some really weird employee benefits:

- You can claim up to ₹1,000/- for a book purchased on Amazon; subject to:
a. You share your takeaways from the book in a Slack channel (internal
communications tool)
b. You mention one takeaway from the book which you will apply to your role at
BimaPe.

As the CEO, I've taken it upon myself to "lead by example" here by open-sourcing
my learnings from 1,000+ hours of learning (reading + podcasts) to the BimaPe
team (screenshot below!)

There are 2 reasons I've placed this emphasis on self-development:

1. “Reading a good book is like having a conversation with the finest minds
(today and with those) of past centuries.” – Rene Descartes
- I want BimaPe's team to become better - our Product will too by extension!

2. "Culture only works if the leader visibly participates in it and vocally
champions it." - Ben Horowitz
- I want a culture centered around 'learning' and 'improvement'

I would encourage every startup to include a self-development budget (for
reading) as a part of their employee benefits.
