It takes about 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton. Which is then
sold for roughly 2$ / kg.

That makes no sense whatsoever. And India is one of the largest producers and
exporters of cotton.

But there are alternative materials - and ones that are freely available,
considered "agricultural waste" at the moment.
