Does anyone here use referral techniques to get new customers?

I'm about to get in touch with old clients announcing my new Photoshop service,
and started thinking about a referral strategy. If someone new subscribes or use
the one time service, the person who referred get either a free retouch or a 10%
off the next month.

I've implemented this in Many Requests by adding a new field in the Intake Form.
It's a bit redundant having it every time someone on subscription sends a task,
but for one time task, it can work.

Any ideas or suggestions about using referral strategies?
