As a Head of Technology/CTO one of the important decisions I have to make is
selecting the right tech stack (various technologies) for a project. I have
always resisted the urge to use the hottest tech just because it is being used
at a large organisation or all new hotshot startups are using it.

Beyond just the technology I have to look at the costs of a technology. Can I
find programmers for this tech at a reasonable salary? What is the cost of
training? What kind of hosting environment is needed? Licensing costs? Is the
IDE (Integrated development Environment) free or costs money? How easy it is to
learn for someone new to the tech but is a seasoned programmer?

Trying to keep up with the joneses in technology is not a good idea.
