"Why - are you busy right now?"
Is what this agency guy named Sumit asked me when I told him he should have reached out via email or atleast left a message and checked availability before cold calling.

Here's how the conversation started:
S: Hey, Harsh. Long time. (Audacity here to bait me into the conversation)
H: Sorry, I don't have this number saved, who's this? (Curious me thinking how ill mannered I could be)
S: This is Sumit. (pause)
H: Umm, Sumit who? (Trying to recollect all SUMITS I have known since my birth in those few seconds that he graced me with)
S: I am from xyz marketing agency wanted to talk to you regarding...(and he went on. I wish I grasped the agency name).
H: (I had to cut him) Sorry, but hang on for a sec, how did you get my number?
S: It's freely available on the internet.
H: So does that mean I have asked for unsolicited calls?
S: Ya but then you posted a requirement on your LinkedIn.
H: And I gave an email id in that post. If you really wanted to reach out directly, you should've atleast messaged and checked availability?
S: Why? Are you busy right now? (He didn't have to think for a second before spitting that out)
H: Wow, really? As a matter of fact, I am! I am caught up in the ICU with my dad battling for life. (Surprised and flabbergasted)
S: Oh. I am sorry! (And he hung up)

PS: Nothing I wrote here is exaggerated - I am writing this post from the hospital whilst my dad is battling for life.

A humble request to all agency partners wanting to pitch their great works - we really want to understand what you do, and maybe even work with you. But you've ought to have some basic courtesy and etiquettes - maybe people really are 'busy right now'?

Have a great day.
